KZ400 95% Done

Alright I finally got some serious work done and uploaded some pictures, you can check out the set in the original KZ400 post or just head over to flickr for more photos.

Here is the 95% complete bike. I have to take it out for a few shakedown runs. Put the remaining badges on and possibly do something with the lights (new turn signals, brake and head light?).

I did the paint myself, completely stripped the engine down and replaced the leaking oil seals, no leaks so far!!

KZ400 Update

Tonight I need to take photos of recent changes to the KZ400. I stripped the bike down and had the engine hot tanked. I have repainted the engine and started painting the body pieces. I also changed the handlebars to superbike bars with bar-end mirrors. I would like to clean up the controls with something a bit smaller as I am running out of space. The clutch post/lever was replaced with a shorty version. This list goes on and on. So I will add photos to my flickr feed and comment on them.

Honda V65 Update

So I need to upload some photos, but first I have to upgrade my flickr account so I can go beyond 200 photos at once.

This weekend I put the heads back on after a lot of fussing around, tonight I plan on getting the cams all setup. This has taken some effort and isn’t as easy as I thought it would be. Ideally I would pull the whole engine out, but this thing is massive so I can’t do that on my own.

More updates and photos tonight.

New Bike Parts

I won some new parts for my KZ400 last night on ebay. A NOS tachometer for $41. I have been looking for a new tach to match my new speedometer (the original one broke). Hopefully the gauge will be a lot smoother than the current tach.

I also won 4 push rod-seals for $10 including shipping. This part is no longer available from the dealer and mine is horrible shape causing a big oil leak. I will have to pull the engine and split the case to replace this but that should only take a couple of hours.

Pics and details once I get them and start working.

KZ400

Here is my KZ400. I have had this bike for a few years now and I have done a ton of work to it. Bought the bike for $350 and spent who knows how much on it. I will try to post about the various upgrades. But just for a short list. The bike was torn down to the frame.

The bike is a 1978 KZ400 B1 originally a 400cc vertical twin (now it is a 440cc).

  • Engine rebuilt with 440 head and jugs.
  • Electronic Ignition, new coil, wires
  • Dellorto slide carb and custom intake.
  • New chain and sprockets.
  • Modern controls and Thomaselli throttle
  • New gauges
  • KZ650 gas tank
  • Custom seat

My New Moto Guzzi

I have always wanted a Moto Guzzi and I finally got one! Since I now have three bikes that are in some stage of being worked on I am holding off on any changes to the Guzzi. I plan on spending the next few months getting the other bikes ready and then really diving into the Guzzi. Until then it is all research and no wrenching.

The bike is a 1982 Moto Guzzi V50 III a 500cc small block Guzzi.

Here are the photos I took as soon as I put it in my garage.
